Z22SE Bad idle/won't start without revs - HELP?!

Recently my Astra 2.2 SRI starting having a real bad idle to the extent that the whole car shakes!

I've got no EML faults so kind of stuck where to start.
I've searched around and keep getting some odd stories.. People saying its:

Spark plugs
Coil Pack
EGR
ECU
Injectors

So I can't just pick a random one and start blowing all my money, hopefully somebody can help?

When first firing her up, It starts fine.. Idles around 1100 then lowers to around 1000 at this point you can hear it 'missing' then it drops to around 8/900 when it starts to get bad!

When driving it, You can't notice it until you come to stop & if you change gear at low RPM's you can notice it.

If I've drove it then stopped and go to start it again it struggles to start unless I put accelerator down a little.

I've added a video to hopefully show you how bad it is.

Any idea's ?

Always hard to hear properly with a mobile played through YouTube via poor laptop speakers but is that your chain thats causing all that noise when you go back to the front of the car? It might be worth making a recording under the bonnet.

hes right a vid from the front with the bonnet up would of been better than the zorst 🙂
it sounds like its loping which could be the chain is stretched

So here's another video, It does sound extreamly rough on this video (and it is, but not that bad)

Recently too the emissions light has come on & if I put my foot down i can a faint smell of petrol.

After reading around i'm still clueless where to start next and thinking of either A getting a new engine or B just breaking it.

Any idea's?

Anybody?
A couple of people said try the EGR.. Somebody even said to unplug it and turn it over but it made no difference.. I've got a blanking plate but does anybody know what it can be?

Starting to smell fuel now after about half hour of driving it..

Have you tried the butt plug on the inlet manifold thats what it sounds like to me

The pipe that comes from the cylinder head to the inlet manifold probably isn't seated correctly thus drawing too much air where it shouldn't so remove the pipe and fit this . i have done it myself along with a few others . You get it from your local vw parts suppliers or on ebay

does it smell of fuel at the drivers wing ? could be a stuck fuel vent solenoid
did you get the codes read ?
