Cam Chain Small

hi im having issues with the cam chain on my z22se, ive booked in for the balance kit and cam kit to be done, only the balance kit has been done but not the cam kit, the mechanic is having trouble saying it wont fit, its to small, any1 else had this issue before or know what he doing wrong, any help please as i would really like my car back

So he's saying the cam chain is too small to be fitted? Where did you buy the kit from?

yes mate, he ordered both kits, fitted the balance kit, tryed fit the cam kit but says chain is smaller and cant get it on, not sure where he had kit from but he said he tryed 2 places, 2 kits same ? europarts and bowers i think he said, i dont think it main dealer part, just puzzled by it, if 1 kits fit why wont the other

Would need to know how he's trying to fit the chain, does he have the tensioner already fitted?

your mechanic is not doing it right 🙂
the lucas chains are marginally smaller and a pain to fit but not impossible
the fai and the gm chains fit fine

you might ask him to check the alignment of the cams and the crank then move the slack to the back rail with the crank
this is where the £50 cam locking tool i have comes in handy 🙂

he did say it was a lucas make, he just said he cudnt get tensioner on ?

yes had the same problem with a lucas kit the tensioner has to be fitted unactivated

pull tensioner into the block with left hand ""2fingers"" then turn in with right hand

oh rite i'll tell him that see what he says, but will the lucas kit fit tho ?

well decided send lucas kit back and buy genuine gm kit, but just to check, will this kit go straight no hassle, only mechanic had it 2weeks now

yes the gm kit will go right on unless you mechanic is setting it up wrong 🙂

The FAI kit is very good quality, but at the end of the day, the GM kit is ideally what you want to be fitting. The reason the FAI kit is very tempting, is because it's quite a bit cheaper than the GM kit. We sell just as many FAI kits as we do GM ones now.

cool well i think this time it goin be genuine gm kit, cant be arsed with any more hassle, thanks for the info guys, much appreciated

as matt said the gm is what you want in the main chain and the balancer chain is not that important so i always recommend gm main and fai balancer and if you have a tight budget go with fai main and fai balancer the fai kit is as close to the gm kit you can get
and i have personally fitted quite a few of both now there really is not much difference in the 2 kits fai vs gm
i also always recommend getting them from @[deleted] at the z22se shop the kits are checked before being sent out and there all the latest spec parts 🙂
