Hi
I recently posted about my wifes vectra with a z22yh engine. it was running fine then i turned i off for ten min then would turn over but not start. after a few days of not being able to find anything wrong it started but was very week and gradually improved over 30min. I assumed bad fuel causing blockage but was running rich from smell of exhaust. It has been driven occationally over the last two months but performance varies from very poor to hardly moving. hesitation under 2000revs and cutting out.
After asking on here i assumed it was the timing chain jumping one link but my wife insisted that i bring the car to vauxhall who have said the the swirl flaps are stuck and this is causing the problem. They are looking £500 to fix which i believe is reasonable from what i have seen elsewhere.
I had never heard of swirl flaps before so i didn't know what to ask but after reading up on them I cant understand how they could cause such a dramatic reduction in power throughout the whole rev range. Surely if they are stuck closed then low end power will still be normal but top end will suffocate and if they are open then top end will have full normal power but bottom end will have slight reduction in power. My wifes car is very low on power throughout rev range but struggles to run below 2000rpm.
thanks
