z22yh v bad hesitation barely driveable

Hi Guys

This is about my wifes 2005 auto vectra with z22yh engine. About two months ago i started the car from warm drove off the drive to let another car off and drove back on again turned of the engine and then ten minutes later went back out again and car wouldn't start. engine was turning over but wouldn't start and i was getting a clicking sound from the engine.

This lasted two days and i checked everything i could but didn't find anything wrong then suddenly it started but only just idled for ten seconds then cut out. on next start it got better and improved over 30 min until it was drivable.

Shortly after my wife had twins to go along with out 1 year old so i haven't had much time and we have just been dealing with the rough idle, hesitation, v low power particularly at low revs and struggling to start on cold days.

The car now runs ok some times and will barely move off from stand still at others. Recently it has been more worse days than good.

I got it checked with an auto electrician and diagnostic machine which showed a load of errors but after he cleared then and a short drive it only showed air flow meter and air temp sensor. i have replaced the air flow meter with one from another z22yh manual that was running fine and made no difference.

timing chain might have jumped a tooth, certainly worth checking.

Although I have started to get a rattle at that side of the engine in the past few days it runs too smooth and quiet once above 2000 revs

i have done a couple of z22yh's now that had bad idle and hesitation or none runners from jumped chains after fitting the new chains sorted it

Thanks for that. I assume the only way to confirm is to take off the chain cover and have a look at it or get a compression test done

I would be planning on changing it myself. Is there any decent aftermarket kits or is genuine Vauxhall the way to go and where does them for a good price. I assume both chains will need replaced.

just get the pistons 1 + 4 to top dead centre and then check that the cam lobes on cylinder four are at 2 and 10 O clock

theres a good thread with very similar symptoms on here, if i remember correctly his chain had stretched so far that the car was miles out of timing but didnt show any fault codes

he replaced the chains and all was good.

get chains off here, talk to matt he will help you out with the parts.(y)
