cav24v I'm paul & i've had a lovely cond. grey '51 vectra sri estate bought with only 56k on the clock for the last 6 months. The bad news is I just found out its suffering from a cracked head by no.4 plughole, thanks to info found by my brother on here.
Matt Hi Paul, welcome to the site. Can be quite a common issue with the head cracking on plug #4 due to over tightening.
evocarlos hello and welcome bad news about the head if it is cracked i laff to myself every time i put the plugs in and have to wind the torque wrench past the scale to 20nm
MikeS i laff to myself every time i put the plugs in and have to wind the torque wrench past the scale to 20nm I usually hand tighten em with an extension then quick nip
Matt MikeS said: I usually hand tighten em with an extension then quick nip That's what I've always done. Even when I bought a torque wrench, 25nm felt like too much, so wound it down to 22nm
MikeS Sometimes I find the threads a bit stiff and misleading so i undo em and do em back up a few times with lube 😛 before nipping em up
evocarlos copper slip on the thread put plug in socket lower in to hole turn anticlockwise and listen/feel for the click as the lead thread of the plug passes over the start point then wind in tighten up with teeth lol best way to not cross thread them 🙂
