100 amp alternator

Need a 100 amp alternator for a supercharger conversion on my vx220.

do you have a 120amp at the moment ?

the 120 and the 100amp are the same size just use 4 m10 nuts on the block to move it out

just remove the rear cover and fit a suppressor as described in the 2.4 inlet fitting guide 🙂

According to the guys (and fitting guides) over on .org, it has to be a 100amp (which has to be modified to fit) as space is limited in the 220 engine bay?

i found there was no guide to be read on the top secret plastic car fan club page so had to diy 🙂

mine is super charged and using the 120amp 🙂

but this pic is without the m10 nuts on the block to move it out 8mm

Confused now.

Everything i have read and been told that we (the plastic fan car club 🙂) MUST use the 100 amp. As I'm following the install guide, I'm going to (rightly or wrongly) stick to buying the 100amp.

there's no confusion mate 🙂
its just that on vx220.org there amendment that the 100amp alternator is the only one that fits with the supercharger

im saying thats not the case and the 100amp and the 120amp are of the same dimensions i have both here
i bought the 100amp for the same reason as you then found there both the same size so fitted the 120amp instead

you can make modifications to the rear cover and fit the alternator or just remove the cover and then fit a suppressor (the cover has a suppressor built in)

the 2 posts with pictures are proof enough that it can be done 🙂

another tip don't cut your fuel pipes when fitting the charger its a bad thing to do with 4.5bar in the fuel line 🙂

the problem with the vx220 is there just is not enough room to space out the alternator because of the engine bay bulkhead, which is very close to the engine.

It's very tight as it is with the 100Amp :confused:

even with the 4 m10 nuts on the block the alternator body sits about the same as the inlet
its the pulley bracket that may be an issue with the spacers if it is that close 🙂

there both the same size 🙂 so equally as tight as each other

I didn't use spacers. It went right in. @[deleted] you could try it with the 120amp one. If for some reason it doesn't fit get a 100amp. Should be delivered fast enough as there are plenty available on eg eb@y

Thanks to everyone that has taken the time to help. I'm going to stick the original plan of sourcing a 100amp and follow suit with the other vx220 guys. It really boils down to not wanting to have to remove the 120, mod it, refit and then have have to remove it and do I over again with the 100. I can then sell the 120 to recoup some cost. In the grand scheme if things (cost of doing the conversion) I guess the cost of a second hand alternator is not that great.
