5M1THY Hi all. Lastnight I noticed my n/s light kept flickering and when I turn tight corners it went off and on quickly so I went to check the bulb connections etc and noticed my battery earth lead was hot not boiling but far to hot for my liking. I'm thinking it's a bad earth but before I get the multimeter out I was wondering if there was any common things that could cause this? Thanks in advance
5M1THY I can't see anything wrong with them but it does seem to be the battery leads nothing else seems hot. Daz said: Change the battery positive and all earth leads from battery....had this on my coupe... So basically all the leads going to the battery are likely to need changing?
Daz Yeah the reason the lead is getting hot is coz theres a high resistance in the cables....... you will end up with starting and charging problems as i did ,,,

It's not the whole engine loom is it? I can't follow where they go without taking it to bits
evocarlos the positive goes battery>starter>alternator ive got a 0 gauge cable from the battery to the body 🙂 im sure the main positive will need changing one day

Would you be up for selling? 🙂
Daz thast what you need...however you dont know if thats any good either....... i'd personally get them made up to suit...an auto electricians should be able to make them for you with ends fitted to suit.....

Yeah that's a good point, well I can buy the right leads etc and ill give it ago while my dads around lol ill just have to match what's on it
Daz U'll need cable and the ends,,,,, and a large crimping tool...... end you need are pos and neg battery terminal, and a few Copper Tube Crimp Lugs 6mm2 Entry 8mm Hole

5M1THY That's cool now I know what the problem is it doesn't seem to hard I remember my dad making the clio terminals and loom out of various other renaults when he moved his battery.. Cheers guys big help hopefully I can get it sorted before the problem gets any worse.
5M1THY I've just checked the resistance on all the battery leads apart from the starter and alternator ends as it's to wet to jack it up I can't be arsed lol but all of them are around 0.02 at most I got a 0.07 on one of the lives however I have noticed the headlights only seem to flicker/flash off then on when it's on idle and I turn the steering.. Also the tiny little head light bulb earth is warm could it be as it's hydroelectric steering (if I'm right?) could it be drawing loads of power causing the hid lights to piss about?
evocarlos faulty ballast ? unplug and see if the wire still gets hot the cheap ballasts flash and flicker quite alot i have now gone back to the hella ballasts for hid's
5M1THY evocarlos said: faulty ballast ? unplug and see if the wire still gets hot Well... Lol not long after I bought the van the n/s head light started doing this and just before silverstone I fitted these admit idly it was a rush as I needed lights so the connections are only taped up but it's all good under the tape nice clean soldered connectors. What Evers causing it could of been a problem for ages and knackered one of them ballasts too

5M1THY Mine doesn't lol I can't remember exactly without going and looking but tbh all the wires around my headlights look an absolute mess. When I bought it they were all cable tied underneath the light not realising when I took the lights out they were everywhere. Fuck it one sec I'm gunna go look and take pics you can see it then haha I promise you the van isn't a complete fuck up haha
