K&N Oil Filter ?

Have just come across one of these whilst browsing the net:

By chance has anyone ever used one of these? Damned pricey, but assume they would not breakdown like the standard filters.
There again you could carry out several oil changes for the cost of one these !

they would still need cleaning every oil change 3-4k miles
the problem is people don't realize that the standard oil filter cap has a bypass valve once the filter is dirty and blocked up its sucked in abit then all the dirty oil and damaging particles then bypasses the filter thru the cap and fed to all the moving parts of the engine (not good)
for £6 on the paper filter i realy cant see the point in the extra clean process
also i would like to remove any shite caught in the filter and throw it in the bin with the paper filter on disposal

this is also why things go wrong with the z22se down to neglect oil and filter changes are critical 🙂

I would be changing it every 3-5k.... thats what i do,,

For the sake of £20 to change the oil and filter , i'd rather do it more often than have to replace the chains because the oil filter fell to bits and clogged the oil ways up...

jeah i understand that, but i think its better to only change the oil filter then? changing every 5 k the oil is just ridiculous what does the manual say about this then.
I cant find it on this forum.

I change the oil and filter on my astra vxr every 3k without fail....

so 3000-4000 miles
is 4828-6437 kilometers

like daz said for the cost of the paper filter its better to change the oil and filter more often than leave it to run a muck! 🙂

i keep meaning to reset my insp warning to 3000 miles 🙂

I change the fuchs 5/40 every 12 months (5k) - dependant on mileage really

I change mine every couple of months no matter how many miles I've done. Yes its a bit ott but I'm paranoid lol

on the genuine 10/40 I would change it every 6 months

As above I change mine every 5 months sometimes sooner using genuine 10/40 and genuine filter.

I now cut open my old oil filters to see whats happening inside the engine, can be quite scary whats inside it after a rebuild :eek:

My advice on a brand new rebuild would be to change the filter after 50 miles and then at 500 and then at 1k.

For a used engine I would change the filter at least twice as often as the oil.

hmm i changed the oil at 106thousand and now the clock already said 121000 kilometers so i gues it needs a chance then?
I use 5w40 racing oil
What about sparkplugs? i did them at 106 when do they need to get changed?

swap the £££ ""racing oil"" for gm branded 10/40 🙂
and the plugs can be swapped every 20k miles for gm tipple electrode or evey 40-50k miles for ngk platinum i will still stick to my platinum plugs work great in both na and supercharged 🙂

When i changed the oil i buyed GM 5w30 dexos 2, i thought that whas the right 1, but this engines are a bit tirsty and it makes me paranoid so sometimes i need to put 500ml or something in it, then i buy 5W40 own brand Brezan oil at the store here.
I thought you may not mix dexos 2 with other oils but i dont care much about it, and i think it runs nicer on 5W40.

I bought the Plugs and oil filter from the store of this forum.

In the year I've had my van I've changed the oil and filter 4 times but then I do this with all my cars and I've never had a major engine problem caused by bad oil or crappy bits in the engine ever infact it almost comes out as clean as it goes in then gets put in the tractor so it's not a waste lol

I used to change the oil on my VXR every 6 months, but went to 12 months, as I was only doing 5k miles a year.

Again though, for the price of GM oil and a filter, on a chain driven 2.2 I'd be doing it more frequently than once a year, purely for peace of mind.
