wedge the block???

hi all. my mate has a 2.0 sri turbk astra n a hes tuning it up with forged stuff right now. someone has told him to wedge the block. he doesnt know what it means n asked me, i dont know either.

so what does "wedge the block" mean?

it means to stop the cylinder walls being forced out into the water jackets at high boost levels

its is a requirement for the z20let over 320bhp due to the boost required to get that high
even tho some people dont agree and yes people have run higher than 320hp with out wedges but still better to have them than not or use a c20let block

c20let block has support for cylinder walls 🙂

z20let with brass wedges they only need to be in the top 10mm of the cylinder

now ive been asked something else......instead of getting the wedges done, will a c20 block directly replace a z20 block? literally just the part that needs the wedges in? if not then is there much work needed for the swap.
e.g. c20 block with the z20 head etc

im not 100% sure on the swap ive never had one 🙂
but i think you will have a hard time finding a c20let block that's not worn out just remember there from the 80's and there solid cast iron no liners the pistons run in the block so would need to be bored out if there's damage to the cylinder walls

if you were real serious about it you could get a full alloy c20 block with liners as used in the rally cars from millinton's for like £2.9k
