Engine trouble

Hi guys,

I have a zafira 2.2 petrol z22se I replaced the engine earlier in the year with a second hand engine from a vectra with 92000 miles on clock, The engine has recently been using a lot of oil I have been replacing oil 2-3 litres every 200-300 miles now I have the oil light coming on now and again and have some sort of engine knock, I am contemplating having a full engine rebuild as I can't afford to buy a more reliable car at the time being, I just thought I'd ask on here for advice firstly of possible causes and possible cheaper solutions or recommendations where to have engine overhaul thanks in advance

Do you know the history on the old engine? There are a few reports on here with engines using quite a lot of oil.

that's a lot of oil! must smoke loads. you sure its not leaking? not cheep to have an engine rebuilt these days and with that kind of consumption it would need a rebore which means new pistons.
maybe cheaper to find a new engine?

you mean new rings and a good honing ? 🙂

buying a short block may be a better option then just grind the valves in and fit new stem seals
but then a hole engine dont cost so much these days 🙂

think its gone past honing at 1litre/100miles if its burning it the piston will be damaged too. most likely oval bores.
the knocking could be piston slap?
