there not the same unit the self combusting one has 2 AA batteries in it but this type (astra/vec c) melt the +12v wire into the car thru the bulkhead connector when the battery in the sounder leck acid on the pcb
if it starts going off randomly in the night its time to replace/repair but if its randomly going off then it prolly already too late
heres how i fixed up a good one i bought
knife round the groove

pop it open

unsolder old batteries and fit new ones

make water proof 🙂

glue it back together with tigerseal

you can see here where mine had made the copper black as after the car was about 5 years old it started going off in the night then after 3 days of putting up with it the alarm stopped working from mass failure of the unit it got fixed in my project freeze my ass off 🙂 been working great ever since fixing it
