engine change now no clutch ?

i have just changed the engine in my vectra sri. all running good but no clutch and no resistance on pedal. please help

You may need to bleed clutch if you have not forgotten to reconnect clutch cable to gearbox

hi yes cable is connected i used my original clutch plate just change the engine. could it be the slave cylinder?

Have you tried to bleed the clutch

Just like you would do with brakes except it is the clutch
You keep the brake fluid reservoir topped up, pump your clutch. on top of the gearbox you will see a nipple , you need someone to open this while you keep your foot on clutch then close nipple repeat process until you feel the clutch peddle pressure returning and only fluid comes from the nipple on the gearbox.
This is a problem i had when i removed engine you take off the cable/pipe that the fluid runs through and thats why you lose pedal pressure
I'm pretty sure thats what your problem is

hi thanks for the fast replies i really appreciate it in a bit of a mess no car and all. if i can explain i left gearbox in situ but jacked it to a sharp angle i dont think disconected fluid pipes. to remove the engine from the top.could i have done any damage?

I thought you first said you changed your engine that is why i suggested you need to bleed clutch if you removed engine from top then you would have to disconnect wires hoses and pipes as the engine would only move so far before these bits stop it moving any further
you need to check then that you have not damaged anything around the gearbox area pipes,hoses attached to gearbox its pretty much all i can think of just now . so i would give the clutch bleeding operation a go anyway

If you removed the clutch hydraulic pipe pictured then you need to bleed the clutch

sorry i did change the engine. I split the box in the engine bay but i had to jack it to an angle to get the engine out. all i did to the gear box is remove the mounts to push it to the right to give me more room to lift the engine. But the angle of the box was so great it popped the drive shaft on the gear box hope this explains it a little better.Sorry to bother you again.

The hose will be under the battery tray

Hi just an update.Bled the clutch and to my horror gear box is leaking Brake fluid.I must have caught the slave cylinder when putting the engine back in. Anyway what is the quickest way to put the mess right? what if any has the brake fluid done.Thanks in advance.

Sounds like you're going to have to remove the gearbox
