astra h z18xer timing belt?

has anybody fitted a cam belt on an astra h 1.8vvt?looking at doing mine and wanted to see if there are any dos or donts or is it a straight forward job.will use the cams locking tool but do I need a tool to lock the crankshaft on its timing mark?done a couple of chains on z22se before so thought id give it a go any help would be great thanks

I will be doing a belt and water pump on a z20ler astra H, hopefullly this weekend, so will let you know if it's easy or not

Z20 cambelts are a piece of cake..... just make sure you lock the cams....... the 1.8xer is just as easy, forget it has vvt and treat it as anormal belt change....

it took under two hours start to finish, the splash guard had a couple of hidden bolts but not exactly hard to locate 🙂

I didn't have a cam locking tool, so just used a torq driver to slightly align the sprockets when refitting the new belt. Even the original water pump came out without a fight 😃

I wouldn't expect it to be a hard job for you though Neil 😉

I haven't done a cambelt for ten years or so, so was a little rusty 😃

i still find doing the chains way easier than the belts 🙂 setup is a dream in comparison on the z22se

I do so many different cambelts in work, in honesty there all a doddle...

thanks for the replys guys.so to recap set to tdc lock cams then change belt turn engine 2 times and re check marks.will the crankshaft move when belt is off and if so is it just a case of moveing back to its mark.also is it an auto tensioner.just release the holding pin and that's it?thanks for your help guys

o yeah nearly forgot.could someone please tell me what is the correct camshaft locking tool for the z18xer been looking at sealey ones on ebay thanks again
