Hi All,
Firstly - Hi to everyone - just joined and this is my first post..
I have a Vecta SRI 2.2 Direct on a 56 plate.. Over the last few weeks I have been getting what i can only describe as 'vibration' coming out of the engine. Its intermittent - some days the car sounds just like it used to, other days it has the vibration (sound and feel)...
i can feel the vibration at idle, and it becomes really noticable at about 25000 revs , so much that if I look in the rear view mirror everything is blurred as the mirror is vibrating... That being said, some days the car is perfect - no issues with vibration at all.
I first thought that I had a hole in the exhaust, or had dropped a baffle - the sound is that noticable on a bad day. But have since had the exhaust replaced...
I have taken a pic of my engine, as I believe (from reading other posts) there are 2 engine types - sorry Im not a mechanic.

The last few days, i have also started getting a noise when I start the car from cold... after a few minutes the noiise stops, and doesnt tend to come back if I restart the car thoughout the day (from warm). It sounds like a loose chain sound to me, but again Im no machanic.
I will attach a sound file of the noise Im getting if I can figure out how...
Ive discussed with a vauxhall main dealer and they think it could be the secondary timing chain that has jumped.. does that sound plausable?
looking on line i can see reference to a Balance Shaft Chain, and a main Cam Chain.. I presume its the balance shaft chain they are referring to? would it make sense to have both replaced? and if so, any estimates on possible cost?
I dont want to go to a main dealer - does anyone know any good mechanics/garages in Bracknell/camberley area?
many thanks for your help..
dave
