Hi guys,

Here Daniel from the Netherlands. Got myself a vx220 2.2 recently and planning to go turbo. Did several Nissan projects in the past with a friend of mine like my Nissan 100NX 2.0 Turbo (GT28R, 278 whp) and my S13 200sx 2.0 Turbo (GT2871R, 350 whp), but finaly went for some lightweight EnglishGerman stuff hahaha.

Anyway here's the vx220 or Opel Speedster as it is called on this side of the water:

So hope to find good information about the engine over here and perhaps even a nice chat lol.

Yep, did consider but to be honoust: I know my turbo stuff good enough to do it myself... and I've never been near a SC... so I'm a bit of a hilbilly redneck now since I only like what I know hahah. Did drive a mates 2.2 turbo an must say its instant power from down below... I like it ;-)

its a popular mod for the vx220's 240-260 bhp in a light car will be rapid 🙂

ive attached here the USA 2.2 supercharger fitting guide its a very similar process for the european 2.2

Well thanks mate, will have a go with it tomorrow or so. A lot of the dutch vx guys go SC mostly because the tuners are more into this mod than a 2.2 turbo.
I want to do all my mods myself and a guy at our forum cracked the vx ecu and turned it in an open free programmable ecu with his software. So basicly I can be the first dutchy with his DIY 2.2 Turbo. Not a goal itself, but nice to show other people that it can be done and doesnt have to cost an arm and a leg (hey I come from the Nissan community..... they're cheap hahah).

Also read people use the SR20DET ex manifold to convert into a z22se turbo manfold with a z22 flange. Those are the things I realy like to figger out you know. Not to be cheap (ok, Im dutch) but to see what's possible and what works.

Jep, thats the one. 800 euro is a bit expensive I must say, but then again, everything seems to be with vx tuners (monopoly kind a thing i reckon). Used the same concept on the Nissans, called Nistune, and is basicly an open ecu were you can adjust whatever you want.

i had looked at that myself but for 800 euros you could get an aftermarket ecu and do the same thing 🙂
im still on the z22se ecu for the supercharger but its way cheaper letting courteney sport do the ecu side of it

That is true, but what are the costs when you want more power? Thats the addiction that comes with turbo's and DIY (SC also i reckon haha). Turn up the boost cause you know you want to...
If i do the GT28RS setup I can keep it under GBP2500,- to run 240-250 whp'ish (say 270 bhp) at 0,5 bar/7psi. If I put in pistons and rods, HG, port the head etc. while the stuff is off anyway I'll just up the boost to 1.1 to see +300 whp (340bhp).
Long story short: I think you have a larger playground sort of say with a turbo and power, especilly with upgraded internals. Keep in mind this is my turbo point of view... no experience with SC besides the internet forums.

Funy thing about these discussions is that they are great when actualy informing one another and in the end the conclusion is: As long as YOU like YOUR car haha lol.

Sorry for the offtopic stuff but I just like to read A LOT on a lot of forums worldwide before I make up my mind on things ;-)

cost for more power with the supercharger is $40 for a new pulley and £100 for a remap and rolling road tune
240-260hp with a stage 2 pulley then at 270ish the rods need doing
£1200 for the charger conversion and maybe another 400 for extra bits and remaps down the line
for over 300hp i would need new rods and pistons ported head ,cams, and a harrop supercharger the bigger charger is £1600 on its own but a direct fit with what i have now
after that theres not much point going past 300 in a front wheel drive car 🙂

So going with the harrop you are probably is the same power/money range as going turbo give or take a few quid I guess.
+300bhp on a fwd is ok as long as you can use R888's or so. At least thats what I was doing in the NX to get the power down.

yes about the same sort of cost for a similar power i hear theres a lot more potential with the harrop charger 400hp could well be possible
but then everything else need changing to suit the power clutch,brakes,cooling etc etc

lol im to cheap to buy r888's 🙂 would just use the cheap tires with less pressure in them hehe

use the saab B207 turbo bits for an OEM install, especially the inlet manifold which is alloy and can take plenty of boost.

thought about that but want to push 240 ish whp on low boost since 10:1. I dont think the saab or z20let setups can do that. I read on the vx forum of these "stage" tuning things. Guys push about 1.4 bar or so on a K04 turbo to reach 250ish whp. No wonder why they go with chagecooling instead of the air-to-air intercoolers. Pushing heat as a mofo. If I stay stock I think of a <GT28RS@7psi>, saab intake, vxr injectors etc.

When replacing pistons and rods I'll take the engine out and put a good clutch in aswel and push 1 bar or so to get 300ish whp. We'll see how intake temps go with this boost and the vx enginebay.

Like I said, first a lot of thinking before go into action ;-)
