*UPDATE*
Hi Everyone,
Thank you Guy27 for your replies. I cannot seem to get my OBD11 adaptor working to get the codes.
I have had my dream of rebuiling my SRi smashed to pieces after replacing everything on the car except for the suspension. Here is what happened.
First, I bought a 2003 Holden Astra SRi 2.2 (Non-Turbo) which had a 'blown head gasket'. It has the 2.2 Z22SE engine and is manual.
It turns out that the car overheated, warped the head and top of the cylinder head. So, I sourced a re-buillt cylinder head, two blocks away sitting on a machinist's shelf, and had the whole bottom end rebuilt too (pistons, rings etc).
So, I could not find a mechanic to put it back together as it was taken apart by the dealer due to the previous owner asking for a quote, so a retired mechanic put it together for me with new VRS kit, water pump, chain etc. So, it should be running like a new car.
It has now done almost 2000kms and has bunny hopped and idled like a donkey since day one. I have changed the oil, and driven it softly during the break in. As previously posted here, I know it needs an O ring on the front of the vacuum pipe that feeds into the front of the block to stop it sucking for air.
Here are the symptoms of my engine:
Car idles erratically
- O Ring missing from EGR/front vacuum hose which could fix 'hunting' proplem
- Engine is noisy like it is sucking air
- The Emissions light is on
- The Check Engine (Spanner) light is on, then off, then on
- I took the ignition cartridge out, and the fourth well is quarter full of pink coolant
- The mechanic claims that coolant may be leaking from overhead hose that goes to filler bottle
- Another mechanic claims idle motor and cam sensor need replacing
OK, someone want to make or break my day!!!!
Regards,
James 🙂
P/S - if the news is terminal, can a standard Z18XE engine be fitted to the SRi?
