Check safeguard

Got in the car last night and it now displays check safeguard alarm on display screen when you turn ignition on. The led flashes as soon as you lock it on the fob which indicates a fault as it should be a solid light for 10 secs.Have tried disconnecting the battery and checked the related fuses. I was trying to cram alot of stuff into the boot so wondering if I've knocked a sensor or wire. I know the estate vectras have this fault due to the connector to the rear screen being lost. Anyone had this problem before on the vectra hatch?

I take it your on about a Vectra C? If so I was always under the imprecation that the hatch was different but I had my rear screen put through a couple of months back and i got the same "Check Safeguard" so the rear demister looks like it works the same as the estate in that it is also the glass break wire/sensor. Single "bars" wont affect anything but check where they merge into just two single wires on the screen and also where they connect to the plug. HTH

PS let us know if you find the fault.

PPS, if that fails check the connection from the ultrasonics and also press the alarm button before you lock it to disable the ultrasonics.

Yeh it's the vectra c hatchback 2004. Where can i find the connections you mentioned? Where can I find the connection? Is it behind the boot carpet trim? Where is the ultrasonics connection?

The ultrasonics are plugged into the light console in the roof, pop the sunglass's holder (if fitted) or blanking plate, then pop the plastic lens cover off the light, you will then see 3 or 4 screws, undo these, then unclip the clips behind the blanking plate and the whole ultrasonic/light assemble will lower down and you will see the plug there, as for the rear screen i've just had a look and you cant see the plug but its behind the trim I belive, and for that you'll have to take that down and have a poke around. I'm only mentioning the screen because you mentioned you had stuffed a load of stuff in there. The other things you could check would be fuses in the REC, the rear fuse box thing behind the passenger side cubby in the boot.

Ok thanks will have a look when I get chance. Yes checked fuses in the boot. Infact when I pulled the siren fuse the alarm went off because the doors were locked, I had only opened the boot. So I assume the siren and its back up batteries are ok (this apparently is a common fault which causes alarm to go off randomly when back up battery fails)
I also think it could be to do with the rear screen although Iv had a lot of trouble with this car the last 3 months. Rear brakes seized (wore out 6 month old pads) when I got round to fixing them I went to start the car up.....no compression...yes the chain had slipped which had bent 2 valves, replaced chains valves got engine running, had to replace both rear calipers and pads, then had new front tyres fitted and noticed front end knocking so replaced drop links as well and it drove spot on and then either that day or day after i get the check safeguard message so I dunno if Iv disturbed anything but starting to lose patience with this car

May sound daft but there isn't any sensors etc near/inside wheel arches like level detectors for anti wheel theft? Have looked in the Haynes but it basically says any faults with the standard alarm system, take it to a vauxhall/Opel stealer................Nice one!

Only thing under the arches would be ABS plug, front left pad sensor and tyre pressure sensors. Its really rare to have a check safeguard on a hatch. Try misting up the rear with a boiled kettle/steam cleaner and see if the demister works, if it works the rear glass isn't the fault, if it doesn't then bingo. Other than that check the bonnet plunger is working, sometimes it can get knocked and bent out of alignment, so check the wires and then hold it down manually and set the alarm. Other than that mate, you'd have to plug it into something like Tech2 or opcom.

Have checked the plunger, this seems to work fine as have held it down and locked car, after 10 secs let go and alarm went off. What I have found though is when i sit in the car and lock it if I move around it doesn't set the alarm off. Also I checked all four doors and when armed if I manually unlock the door with the pin they all set the alarm off apart from the offside rear so could this be the cause of my check safeguard?

Infact it's not recognising when the door opens at all, is the sensor inside the lock mechanism?

If you open the door you can see the connector, try unplugging and cleaning it and re fitting.

Where abouts on the door am I looking at?

Bottom of the door by the hinge. Push the blue part into the door as far as it goes then the multiplug should just pull out. A spray of contact cleaner or wd40 should clean and dirt that may be there.
