car alarms??

I'm looking into upping the security on my astra, I've had a browse about and found a few contenders but before I jump in with both feet and buy one I'd like some advise on whats best, worst etc.... Also reviews on what u guys have got. Thanks. Mitch

Everyone I know who has fitted an aftermarket alarm has gone for a Clifford one. Model really depends on the features you want from it, and how much you want to pay.

i had a clifford concept 300 put on my r19 16v after someone tried to steal it
paid £480 fitted with the microwave sensor and auto closing windows was funny to see people walk close to the car and it chirp they did jump 🙂
top notch gear but cost a bit with fitting
only other brand i think i would trust in aftermarket alarms are cobra

Had a look on the net at a few and I keep going back to the viper 5901 for the features and price it looks like a no brainer compared to the likes of toad, Clifford and Cobra, but Iv never heard of a viper alarm, so I'm unsure :confused:

Viper looks to be an American brand of alarm, as all the links I find take me to US sites (even their own).

Oh ok, thanks guy's for clarifying that. I'm still not sure tho whether I'd need all the features tho, I like the idea of remote start for those early starts for work to warm car up but the rest I'm not sure I'd use, I like the idea of the microwave sensor to warn people that get to close tho

As far as I know, if you have a cat 1 alarm, adding the remote start feature voids the cat 1 part.

cat 1 is alarm and immobiliser cat 2 is immobiliser only
if you have remote start the immobiliser is compromised but you can still get thatcham approved systems installed then fit the remote start later 🙂
