tappet adjustment?

Hi all,

Just a quickly. As a few know I've just got my astra back on the road after timing chain failure.
Anyways I have 3 tappets a little loose, I noticed before putting her back together. The cars run only for about 10mins so far n I can hear those tappets. Really can't remember if they were tapping before its been a while. There is definitely oil up there as I checked using the method evocarlos advice

The questions are:
Are they likely to sort themselves out?

If not....are they adjustable on a z22se

not adjustable.
they may sort them selves out once the engine reaches full temp, they can stick sometimes.
do you have good oil pressure? does the noise go if you raise rpm to 1500?

what happens is when a valve hits the piston it can seize the hydraulic lifter too, easiest way to test them is to compress them in a vice, if they open back up to full height they are okay, if they stay compressed they are dead and should be binned.

Not sure corsa, I didn't run it very long. Hopefully running it for longer at the weekend, i have no tax or mot on it at the mo as its been stood for a while.The oil pressure is fine.

Vocky. I was lucky, because the chain jumped off as soon as the key turned nothing hit at all as I wasn't moving. I showed the head to a friend mechanic n he said its absolutely fine. Maybe I just need to running it a little more?!

chain broken means valves will have made contact it cant be any other way 🙂 obviously the damage depends on the speed you're traveling still to fact that it was stood still means the engine was running on the starter at 100 rpm or so and may have unseated them slightly did you do a compression test ?

Hi just seen this. Been very busy so not really been on the internet. Yeh I have had a compression test done and everything is OK. Just 3 tappets a bit tappety.

Now tho (I have made a thread on this) I have a major oil leak. It happened when driving 60 miles to see me kiddies so I'm stuck for tools. Lost about 3 litres of oil 🙁 I can't see where its coming from because the oil is absolutely everywhere. I'm guessing its the crankshaft oil seal as its got on the belts n just sprayed like mad. Its even sprayed the inside of my rim. The only way I can get home it to have some oil handy n keep topped up..

Can the seal be replaced without removing the case?

Yeah crank seal sits on timing chain cover. Just pop crank pully off and replace it. Not a big job.
