Need Some Advice Regarding Piston

I am helping someone do a head gasket on a corsa 1.2 engine when i cleaned up the pistons i found a little problem

I know its not a z22se but i know we have so many helpful people on this forum who can give some good advice it is not a hole.my uncle who is a mechanic by trade tells me it will be okay to leave as it is . he says it seems like a screw or something has got in there and caused this. I am slightly concerned this would cause a problem with the compression or something .Just looking for some feedback from the troops what would be the best course of action

could of been from a broken spark plug tip
dont think it will cause much bother in the middle of the piston if it were on the edge then it may have pinched the rings
just as long as theres nout in there when it goes back together i can't see there being a problem 🙂

I should have put the gasket on before putting the chain back on :EoF:but i was fucked if i was gonna strip it all down again just realised after putting vital black rtv underneath gasket to stop leaks and down the sides of the engine where the cover sits so i ended up doing this

cutting these bits off with a grinder down the sides .😉 These bits only hold the gasket in position but i stuck it with the vital black so it was ok to remove
Should of took some pictures of the sump with all the nasty sludge inside.When i opened the sump plug first to come out was about a 1 litres worth of water .
Corsas have a wee baby chain tensioner just like the balance chain tensioner in the z22se

i saw the fitting guide the other day its a poxy little thing what's the gm recommended chain change milage ?

Not quite sure about that carlos but the car is on 47000 miles so should be alright for a couple years i would think .tensioner seemed pretty solid also and chain was good also

This thread aint finished yet was put on hold for a few weeks fucked the cylinder head needed a new one will posts pics at a later date now i have broken the guide rail bolt in the case nothing to grab onto with mold grips etc need some advice. went to buy a punch from a tool shop they suggested easy out and a drill bit.The drill bit i got was shit was barely scratching the end of the thread and eventually snapped so gave up. what i'm wanting to know is suggestions how to get it out. Is what i was trying the best method with a better drill bit or a punch or small chisel best .or if someone has a better suggestion what to do i am willing to listen
This has given me more grief than big daddy 2 chains

No carlos it just broke as i was pressing onto the remaining thread trying to start a hole it was a pretty useless drill bit so i thought a bit of light pressure on it might help to start a hole .I think it was 0.2 mm drill bit i was getting nowhere fast it never broke in the hole but im pretty sure it fell into the sump so will have to drain that before it all goes back together again . A few weeks back a bit of the tensioner fell in and i had to drain it to see where it was.

cant add any pics just now computer is playing up anytime i try to transfer something from phone to computer it crashes same if i try to play a video or run any kind of program doing my head in

what size is the snapped bolt m6?
2mm drill bit is tiny and they're prone to snap 3 or 4 mm on a m6 bolt but you have to be bang on squire or you could veer off in the the block
i dont have many pics of removing broken studs but all i can advise is be sure to get a center punch and mark the stub as close to the middle as you can then try and keep the drill on track once you get about 4-5mm in you can try the EZ-out and see if it bites in the hole

I would say they are probably about the same size as the vectra guide rail bolts and probably Astras as well.
Thats a good tip to start with the centre punch(y) A good bit of ingenuity there carlos
Pretty similar idea to the pictures you have posted i will try a bigger drill bit tomorrow if i get the chance

exact same as the black bolts in top left corner right where the fat bit of the bolt starts only pic i can get just now cant edit pic or anything cause of computer playing up

yeah 6mm pins try a 3mm drill but go and buy a pack of 2 brand new good qlty ones let the drill bit do the work just try a guide it in if you push to hard it will just go blunt

Will do. if the drill method dont work i will try and borrow helicoil .there's a few mechanics round about where i am working on car hopefully someone has one try and save myself 25 quid

Got it out 😃 got a centre punch bought a couple of drill bits went to work smacked it a few times with the punch then started with a couple of drill bits . Then it just fell in the way .Didn't take too long, but it never fell into sump cause behind that bit on the block is solid with nowhere for it to fall and a couple of mechanics also said it will be alright plus the thread was ok too surprisingly just needed to get another bolt had a few spare from when i done the chains on the vectra the thread is the same but the bit that sits in the rail was a bit fat to go into the corsa rail so done a bit of grinding and filing and got the same 2 mechanics to give it a seal of approval. So went about putting it back together this time with a flat bar across the 2 cams at no. 4 cylinder end so it would not slip on me again while putting chain and tensioner on.just got to do the finishing touches when i next get a chance .But i had to drain the sump as yesterday i knocked over a plastic cup that which amongst other bits had a manifold bolt a 3/4 socket and a reducer adapter inside all of which went into the sump most of it fell away from sump. yesterday was a cunt of a day had my clumsy shoes on . First i travelled about 5 miles then realised i forgot the car keys . and when i finally got to car realised i forgot torque angle gauge and torque wrench hence the breaking of the guide rail bolt. But i like a challenge

I sure am . Already got a replacement . Got a replacement timing chain cover with a better oil pump for 15 quid from a scrapyard (y)just need the time to change over. At least the engine mount was off to save a little time there . So it was either that or get a brand new one costing up to 100 quid

Camshafts on my replacement cylinder head a little worn on one of the lobes and bearing caps this has been swapped over but still have a little noise i am suspecting the chain needs replaced will try and post a vid later but for now a few pics of the damage must have been some heavy grit caught here or caused by a lack of oil
