sdbutler10 Well a few weeks ago the car started to smoke after a few seconds after being on idle, so the obvious valve stem oil seals where shot. So i went about to change them but after removing the air box i found this under it hiding away so me being me i could not hack that and decided it needed to be gone, so i thought about it and decided to remove the engine and box and do it propley so i removed (cut out) the corroded metal and welded in my own plates and finished them off so they should not rot again and deiced to paint the bay and redo the subframe removed this is after a jet was to remove as much of the grime as poss tooked the head off as thought i would re lap in the valves as well after removing the valve 4 of the valve steam seals fell off would out me touching them so they were foooked i was thinking well while it out i might as well check all the bearings and im glad i did coz i found this and this on top of the pistons, i found toy bits of metal stuck in the head so turbo must have gone bang at on point so after much thinking (all of about 10 seconds) i decided to do a complete rebuild of forged components so some nice new rods which can handle 700bhp some lovely wossner pistons which can handle 1500bhp lol head back from the skimmers ready to be assembled pistons built up ready theses are over sized by 0.5mm then i got my new athena head gasket drag racing spec 1.9mm when compressed the rods and pistons assembled pistons fitted with head gasket on and ARP head stud conversion for some serious pressure showing the gasket thickness anther angle of parts in crank in ready to go this is as far as i have got just waiting for a few bits from courtneys then it will be back in and running
evocarlos the ever expanding quest for BHP ""z20let"" 🙂 nice work on the rebuild some nice parts gone in 🙂
Matt Fantastic Scott! Nice to see some decent parts going in there. Looking forward to the next update 😉
Sjdickso Nice one Scott, as said some nice parts used that's one thick head gasket. Good job you found that rust.
Daz Has that had a repair in the past Scott? As I'm sure the coupes are galvanised and unless they have been repaired badly in the past they never rust Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
sdbutler10 Yes there body shell is galvernized and I found a whitness mark of a paint line, but nothing showed up on the hpi check it was damaged!
MikeS offside front shunt ? good repair job though m8, how far does the rot have to be away from suspension turret to not cause a mot failure ?
5M1THY Excellent looking really good it's funny how abit of rust has just caused a full front end and engine rebuild lol I love it good job

evocarlos sdbutler10 said: the plan is next yar to fit a gt30 turbo and aim for 400bhp so are you going to wedge the waterways while its apart so you can run 400hp ?
sdbutler10 For 400 the water way is strong enough. It's about 450 u need to start wedging the water way. But tbh I will only ever see full power for like 10 seconds then back off coz fuel gauge dropping to much lol
