ok so had arranged with paul to fit the cam chains last week
today he popped up to get the work done but during his trip here he was stopped 17 miles from my house with timing chain failure
he arrived in toe from the RAC after a phone call to say what had happen
after a cuppa tea and a chat we started to take the cam cover off to see the damage
its not good and anyone squeamish about their cam chain should look away now this one had 77k mile on the clock
the chain

i can say by the looks of it the chain has failed

under closer inspection the cam followers were lose and i was able to remove them without taking the cams out
due to the different height in the valve springs i suspected valve damage

once the inlet was removed the evidence shows the bent valves on cylinder #4

i then set about removing the head
the valves had made light contact with 2 of the pistons #2 and #4

total damage was 6 bent valves 2 inlet and 4 exhaust

after stripping the head the 4 bent exhaust valves were removed and then i found 2 cracked inlet valve guides

the exhaust valve guides were untouched but due to the time scale and the fact i dont have the equipment to replace the valve guides we will be looking for a replacement head in the morning
exhaust guides

after further stripping the block of all chain parts the oil jet was the old original pin hole type and was then evident why the chain snapped
