Fitting new SS system tomorrow. Advise appreciated.

Hi all!

I've had this FK SS system lying around for a while now and, seeing as my standard back box it literally falling to pieces, it's about time I cracked on with the job of fitting it to my Astra G Coupe.

Its a cat back quad exit purchased last year during FK's ridiculous sale for £64. I've since had the extension removed and welded to convert it back to a dual exit.

I've got all the fixtures and a tub of exhaust cement but I'd like to go into battle armed with a little more than the right tools...

If anyone can offer any advise on the removal, tips on dealing with sensors etc, it'd be most appreciated!!

lots of joints in that kit
make sure theres paste on all your joints and do up the clamps well maybe a test fit before you go whole hog might be worth while
theres no sensors to worry about after the cat 🙂

Well spotted fella!! It's a litle boyracer for me but I couldn't resist the price at the time. I hope it's not too loud and that it doesn't stick out too far (good advise on the test fit).

The spare two tailpipes came in handy as a pint holder and ashtray for my top gear chair 😉

Oh No!

Getting stuck into this today and i've already come across my first BIG problem! I've hacked off the old rear silencer, offere the new one up and i'm seeing issues:

The rubbers aren't lining up and the silencer seems to be a little wide, touching the petrol tank. I haven't checked the rest of the system yet but, unless the centre senction on the new system is longer, I cant see it reaching either....eek..

Please don't tell me they've sent me a system for a hatchback?

Help urgently appreciated!

Rest of the system seem wrong as well. The flange fitting to the cat is lined up but the center silencer seems way too short:

The means the kink following kink is sent off in the wrong direction:

So, am I right? do I have the wrong system?

It's hard to say for sure but it could be for the Hatch.

Iirc the only difference between hatch and coupe exhausts is the back box

I've sent FK some pics. Seems as though it the one for the hatch. The center silencer is just way too short. Gonna have to keep my fingers crossed they honor the purchase, even though it was months ago

das is right the center is all but the same coupe vs hatch

OK, so it seems FK aren't willing to help at all because it was purchased 6 months ago. Aparently I took the last one, even though it was wrong, makes me wonder if they actually had the Coupe exhaust I ordered in stock in the first place!I'm not even sure if the backbox is for an Astra at all?!? (gonne make it pretty difficult sellign it if I don't know what it's for!!

The real problem now is that I already got frisky with the angle grinder before I noticed, cutting off the bracktets of the original center section......
the old exhaust is now held together with U clamps. Grrrr.

Are you guys saying I can still use the center section from the new kit? All the images I can find for coupe systems show a much longer (as in evocarlos's post above) and when offered up, it seems a hell of a lot shorter.

go buy a racing tube for £40 and a 2nd hand irmscher backbox off ebay

if it dont line up then your wasting your time m8, as you have already damaged the equipment then legally there is nothing you can do as the retailer would expect it back in the same condition.

get your tape measure out and measure both systems, if it is badly out then cut your losses

Make them replace it for one thats right.
Regardless of it being six months since the purchase, if you definately ordered an exhaust for your car and they sent you one for another car then its considered not fit for purpose under the sale of good act. They dont have to refund you because its been so long but they have to repair/replace. In this case itd be replace. If they cant replace for one that fits they will have to refund you.

i have a standard center box and pipe in the batcave thats not been used for 7 years but still as it was when removed from the car if you need a center section
