hey gang, long time lurker first time poster.... Great forum btw, been very usefull over the years, but i digress.
Anyway, about 3 months ago my sri started making the ticking noise between 2500 and 4000 rpm, sounding like a knock, possibly pre-ignition, i'm not certain, but then it started making a horrible metallic clanging sound from deep in the engine.
I got it towed to my mech and he called me back about 20mins after i dropped it off and said that the big end bearings on a rod had gone and that there wasn't much he could do.
I got it home and ripped the engine apart as much as i can without ripping it out.
sump was full of shavings and splinters of big end bearings, so i popped the cap off no1, the 'bearings' were now pretty much tinfoil.
The crank looks ok, like there is not any deep scoring or rubbed areas that i can see, but i hear once you've done a big end, you've gotta machine or replace the crank.
Is it worth getting the crank ground and new bigger bearings fitted? only reason i ask is i suspect this motor has had a oil feed or low oil problem, and i'm wondering what else is possibly rooted because of this.
z22se's are pretty hard to come by at an affordable price here in Aus, best i've found was a s/h motor with 67k kms on it for $2500.
if you guys have any ideas on how to get the old girl back on the road cheaply that'd be great.
Ta.
