Yet another z22se engine noise problem thread

Hi all. Been searching high and low for possible causes and solutions for my problem.

Engine makes a horrible rattle/tapping noise between 2000rpm and 4000rpm otherwise it sounds normal, idles fine isn't noisy also no loss of power.
The noise doesn't get louder as I accelerate but goes quiet when slowing down.

Timing chain was changed last year 10,000 miles ago at 72000miles on the clock.

There`s plenty oil in the car yet none appears on the dipstick? :S No oil light on either. Could this indicate a problem with the oil pump?

Any help will be greatly appreciated

usually it's the big end bearings if the rattle is around 2000rpm 🙁

Guess that means a new engine then?
A local garage said the timing chain will probably need replaced again :S but for that there must be other problems to have caused it.

Its not a new engine but the sump needs to come off and the cylinder head needs to come off if the cylinder head comes off the chains will too and then need set again

How much would I be looking at for a new engine roughly?

I paid £450 for mine that was with 58k miles and the chains and tensioner done at 50k.

You can get them for less though

I wouldn't drive it mate until its sorted. I don't mean to be the bearer of bad news but that happened to one of mine and it decided to die on the m1 🙁
Same symptoms as yours, chains replaced, oil in but not showing, no warning or check oil lights. The only diffence is I didn't notice any noises but I'm not saying they wasn't there if you know what I mean

To bump an old thread but keep all my problem together,
Recently had the into Vauxhall to check it out and all they found was a pulley and belt needed replaced. Had that done but that didn't solve the problem. Recently had an oil change done but no oil shows on the dipstick. Could this possibly be the cause of the rattle? Possibly needs a new oil pump?

I would've had thought that whether you have a problem with the oil pump or not, you should still get a readout on the dipstick

Might be worth topping up your oil
