Like Matt said when having to hit some defects you have to work hard but the only time I ever burnt through paint was on fresh paint with a rotary right on a corner.

Sjdickso As you found out no clear coat, hence he reason they oxidise so quick when not treated, only thing I can say is possibly its been mopped before and the paint was very thin in the area. Really unlucky though.
