I've decided to start and service my car me self and rapairs stuff on it nyself cos I just dont have time to get to a garage mon-sat. Thing is I dont have tools and I dont know which ones Id need. So which would I need to buy to do a full service?

I would say a set of spanners ranging from 6mm to 24mm and 1/4" & 3/8" drive sockets and ratchets. Also some hex sockets and male + female torx sockets. Decent jack and some axle stands and wheel chocks.

Sound m8 cheers, can go with a list now instead of walking buying loads of crap I dont need and coming out £££ lighter, lol.

Tbh, with that lot, you should be able to do a few jobs other than just a service.

try searching for basic starter tool kits on line, theres some good deals to be had if you are only using them for diy jobs on the car. if its for a z22se you could do with either a 32mm 6 point socket or a combination spanner for removing the oil filter cap.

Just been and got a little kit from diy shop up road,andn picked up filters oil and spark plugs so Ill have a crack at the air filter and possibly the oil and filter tonight.

Went in halfords today and saw a few of them but none were on offer. If the bigger kits were on offer in near future might be tempted but I think I got everything I need for the service in this little box thing and its ideal to leave int boot just in case.

So Im attempting the airbox mod and I cant seem to get the cloth pipe out Im pushing on the clip in the picture with a screw driver but having no look. Do I have to push really hard? Obviously dont want to break anything.

So might seems like a daft question but, just treat meself to some axel stands and was wandering whats the best place to put them underneath :confused: I was looking for a great big round thing that doesnt seem to exist.

I use the jacking points next to the sill covers

under the sub frame or under the sill for the front ,not on the floor where it looks like its meant to go as that just bends the floor 🙂
and the rear i put mine on the front bolt of the rear beam mount but leave it on the jack at the sil and just drop the axle stand in place just incase

Ah, I decide on the subframe and just left the jack in too to share the load.

Well I didnt change the oil with the rest of the service (ramps were too big to get up) Ive just removed the sump plug, and boy does it gush out, had the container underneath and it shot straight past it, lol. Good job the road is black too! :oops:

I had axle stands, 2T trolley jack, 150 piece toolkit from halfords and other odds and sods everything I would need for a basic service but as I was not using them enough to justify even having them over the last couple of yrs I have given/traded them away, but now I really want to do stuff to the car again, i have no tools lol
