Best way to

Right i think ive found the problem with my rough idle etc as ive found half of a sheared exhaust manifold stud and nut. After looking further its from this location (see picture, circled in blue(

Now I'm hoping i can get some mole grips on the bit thats left in the engine but if i cant what is the best way to try and drill it out?

Thanks for that Matt. I did a search as well, but my excuse is I'm on my phone and I'm sticking to it lol

Not looking good, so hopefully there will be enough sticking out for me to get some grips onto. If not then its a call to the AA and hope its covered on their parts and labour cover which ive took out

When I changed my manifold 2 of the nuts had rusted solid onto the stud. So when I loosened them the whole stud came out, so they can be removed. I would reccomend giveng it a good soaking in wd 40 maybe overnight to help loosen it up. And if you have a grider grid 2 flat spots top and bottom on the stud so the mole grips grip better.

Did you say its sheared, as in there is still some of the bolt left in the block.

If so, you are going to need to remove that piece, maybe it will come out easy with a soaking of WD40 otherwise you will need to drill it out without mucking up the threads, if you do muck the threads then you will need to re-thread them.

Get down to Vauxhall parts and get some more bolts and nuts, only a few quid for them and get some copper grease round the bolts.

Yeah it's sheared in the head mate. I'm going to take the manifold off on Monday and have a proper look. I'm hoping there is enough to get some mole grips on it cause i dont fancy having to take the head off to drill it out 🙁

On a plus note it will give me chance to drill the pre-cat out and hopefully once its done the rough idle will be sorted

if its sheared in the head where you cant get a grip on it, get a washer over it then put some weld in the hole of the washer onto the bolt then weld a nut to the washer

I've never done any welding work before so it would have to be a garage job 🙁

drill is a bad idea theres a chance to ruin the head and go off track

if you know someone with a working mig then go get a nut welded on and just turn it out 🙂

Ill ask around to see if anyone can do it for me then. What if its not sheared flush with the head cause i cant get my head around how it could be welded onto it as surely the weld would stick to the hole as well as the stud? If you know what i mean.

use your phone to take a pic and have a look if its flush or sticking out a bit then no problem if it just 1 or 2 turns in then maybe harder to do but can still be done that way
i would've offered to do it but my mig welder is broken and need £60 spending on a new lance for it

Sorry on my recommendation, I forgot the exhaust manifold was at the back and was remembering when drilled one out of a z20let with the head in place as the manifold was at the front. :-/

Yeah I've seen them late this afternoon which was to late to get them delivered for Monday 🙁 otherwise i would of brought them through here.

Talking of buying things through here, does anyone know when the stickers will be back in stock?

The old stickers were using the old logo that we replaced over a year ago. I'm trying to sort something out for some new ones, but don't have any ETA on them at the moment.
