ISP Move

My current ISP has been bought out, and they have move all accounts over to the new company, and only announced it today, even though this was completed in April.

I've just placed an order with Plusnet for their Unlimited Fibre package, which will see me getting the same speed as before (possibly slightly higher), and I'm also moving the phone from BT to them, as this gives free activation (saves £50) and half price for the first 3 months 😉

Once it's all set up, I'll order a static IP and possibly activate their "Pro Add On"

I didn't bother with the pro addon, its good enough as it is.. Router they supply is a waste of time. only has 3 10/100 ports

I bought the Netgear WNDR4500 N900

I use DynDNS instead of a static IP as it's only remote access I'm concerned about these days

I don't mind buying a different / better router if need be. Current ISP locks me out of the router I have as t's a "managed" service. I can't even change the SSID !

I want a static IP as I lock all my web server access down to my work and home static IP addresses.

Well I've had a right run around with Plusnet so far.

They haven't even been able to place the order yet to take over my broadband. Basically, they are showing an incompatible product on my phone line. After many an hour spent on the phone to both BT and Plusnet, it turns out the actual incompatible product is my current fibre broadband, because it's not provided over the BT network.

So, I now need to fully cancel my current contract, and once that has been ceased, they can then place the order to provide my broadband.

9.99 unlimited and paid one off fee of £5 for the static ip

pings are in the mid teens and I am pretty happy

That's what I'll be doing. I've signed up for the 80mb package, as I'm only 20m away from the new fibre cabinet they installed on the street (about 30m closer than the cabinet I'm in now for the Digital Region network)

I am about 30-40m from my cab, only speed I can get is 55mb, ping is usually single digits moving to low teens

I've been with them for a few years after moving from Be there at my last place. I got the half price deal too @ £9.99, but I do the phone line too with them.

I was with Be before going with the Fibre option.

This is where the problem I'm having is. It's tagged to my line as an extra feature, which no one knows how to deal with. Going to have about a weeks down time at the end of the month when my current service is cancelled.

So, digital region network is being turned off on 15th May, as the councils have pulled all the funding for it, so signed back up with plusnet today. Should go active in 2 weeks.

Been on Plusnet for a week now. Had initial issues when it was first installed, as the Kellys engineer who came out to do the install didn't know enough to change the jumpering in the cabinet to move me back onto the BT fibre network from the DigitalRegion network. OpenReach came out last Monday, and only took him 15 minutes to sort it all out.

Not bad going there. I only hit 44mb downstream with Plus.net where I am...

Trying to sort out my parents internet at the moment... they were with BE which got brought out by sky or something.. so now they are with sky for internet which the speed has dropped considerably during browsing and the actual downstream is 5mb less than before with BE.. They didnt get any letter asking if they wanted to just letter saying its changing...

Trying to sort them out with Virgin at the mo... They have sky tv fully loaded and bt for the phone.. Can get it all with Virgin and fibre for less than its all costing them!

It helps being < 100 foot from the new Fibre Cabinet they put in 🙂

My in-laws are with VM, and they are getting over 100MB now, with 150MB coming this summer.
