Eml & Spanner light now car wont start

ok so ive had the eml light come on about 2 month ago but some days i can drive it and it doesnt come on at all. When im cruising at around 30mph i sometimes get a judder but if i accelerate its fine. ive cleaned and changed TB and i will be removing EGR soon as i think it may be the EGR pipe.

I was driving home yesterday and i noticed the car with spanner light ( i believe that is engine/transmission electronic fault ) come on dash and went off after a few mins within a minute it come back on again. A few miles down the road the car cut out and wouldnt start.
When i turn the key i can here the starter whirring but engine not firing. if i tried to start the car whilst in gear it will jerk forward so i believe starter if good.

Could it be the coil pack? is there any way of testing it?

To test the coil pack remove it from head but without disconnecting plug. you turn key and hold a piece of metal to each spark plug one at a time if theres a spark you know its okay if not you know there is a problem
From my experience there is no spanner or engine light for a dodgy coil pack and it should still start but idle very roughly. i think you have some other problem that is unrelated to your coil pack but it is worth testing coil pack anyway

Personally I would try the pedal test first. If no joy maybe try disconnecting the battery for half an hour and if the problem still persists I would try a diagnostic check. Most garages will prob do it for about a tenner. The eml light as you say is prob egr related as I have the same problem atm. Some days its on some days its off but still drives fine.

Tested coils and seemed fine.
Had someone plug a diagnostic in but read "cannot read fault"
I took rocker cover off and tried to start it the cams were spinning quick but smooth. So don't think I got compression. Gonna take head off now

ok so the eml light was on because the o ring was missing from the egr pipe to inlet manifold.

And i found out that the keys had sheered off the inlet cam sprocket and 1 was cracked on the exhaust cam sprocket. Not happy since they have been on the car for 3 months 1700 miles. luckily there was no damage to valves this time.

now i have to pay for a new timing chain kit and send my kit back for inspection before i get a refund.

That is some shitty bad luck with the sprockets but lucky no valves bent.What brand of timing chain kit did you use

Is that the same sprocket in both pictures, or are both damaged?

Timing chain kit was FAI brand

Both sprockets damaged the inlet is the 1 with both keys sheered and exhaust is the 1 with 1 key is cracked

Not my beloved FAI . I've had same brand in mine since December no problems yet with it. for me its everywhere else .exhaust sensors,egr,map sensor and ive had a couple of days with no oil in my engine mechanic told me rocker cover gasket is leaking and thats brand new in same amount of time as chains

that's normally caused by incorrect tightening of the cam sprocket bolts :rolleyes:
