well I can confirm that the crank rotates 360deg with the camshafts in the timing position! It's ok, I'm not going to bend anything with my bare hands.
Success!!! 😃 I retrieved what looks like a pin for a wrench or something from cylinder no 1 using my telescopic magnet and now all is well with the world. I did have to persist and try about 4 times with different bends etc, glad I did.

I don't think I dropped it there, so I can only assume it was in there before I started and that combustion chamber no1 has a textured finish! If I get low compression then I know why!
