Lazy starter?

Hi all. My starter motor is lazy as it is slow to turn over. The earth lead from the battery gets real hot as well. I have cleaned the terminals and both ends of the earth lead.
Can the starter solenoid a get dirty or is it possible just to replace the solenoid and the brushes.
2003 Zafira 145,000km on the clock.

Any clues what to check next?

sounds like the starter is on its way out
did you try plastering it with wd40 ?

Can someone tell me the make of the starter and model or part number so I am see what I can do to reco the solenoid. Matt

Also I have put in an additional earth lead and that hasn't made a difference.

Mines a bit slow too, since doing engine change, but that could just be my battery as its fooked

you dont need a part number just ring them below and ask for a starter they will get the right one from yout reg and cheaper than vx can supply

if you cant sort it thru them go on ebay and buy a recon unit 🙂
