EGR pipe ?

Hi all has anyone blanked the egr pipe on their engine & has it made a difference & has the car remained driveable after ?

I blanked off and removed my egr pipe over a year ago, makes no difference to how the engine runs and passed the mot with lower emissions notsure.gif

it fouled my 68mm throttle body, so I removed the complete pipe

the next time the exhaust manifold is off, I will weld up the slot which provides the gases to the egr valve (my manifold is stainless - so very easy to do)

I didn't want exhaust gases put back into the engine either, it's only an emission device and not a performance device - so it went :shock:

This is definitely the EGR pipe?

How does the pipe come off? Can see how to on one end, but the dipstick end looks like it has some sort of odd clip on it? Or is this just for the sleeve that fits over the pipe?

Do I need new gaskets when I remove and blank it off? Or can I reuse the ones (if any) that are there already? Or use Hylomar or similar?

the easiest way is to fit a blanking plate at the join between the pipe and head

a simple piece of metal will do the job

for info: the inlet manifold end is held in place by a 'U' type clip - this pushes down to hold the pipe in place, it simply pulls upwards to release the pipe - watch the gasket

Thanks for that mate, was looking at it thinking of all sorts of ways to cut it and block it up, when in fact as you say a thing piece of metal will do the job easily and quickly.......... :roll:

I sussed the clip too, thanks, the gasket at the bottom end is an O Ring on mine.

Will be blanking it off tomorrow!

But why block it off if it makes no difference?

Is there another reason behind blocking it of maybe?

plus some silicone sealant and the original 'O' ring

to stop unburn't gases from getting back into the engine

when the egr is open, there is extra heat and lower performance

so although there is no gain, you don't loose performance

500 deg c air straight from the exhaust ...........never good for performance!

Ive got a spare egr pipe, i thought about cutting the pipe off flush with the metal fitting,
then tapping into it and filling it with a bolt.
