Hi There just thought id give an update on my engine issues and share my findings in case anybody else could benefit, Firstly to remind people my issue was a severe vibration from the engine and a throaty induction type roar when accelerating , there was a small drop in engine revs on tick over with slightly rough idle but no significant loss of power.
Anyways i finally found a guy who could do my timing chains, and when he stripped it down he found that the upper bolt holding the chain guide on the right hand side had snapped breaking the guide as it did so, during its rattling round had bashed up a few bits and then found its way out of the area, so that chain was pretty slack, the balancer chain was also slack because the cap on the hydraulic chain tensioner had blown out and so therefore no pressure could build up to tension chain and also would have meant loss in oil pressure overall how much is anybodys guess.
My quote for supply and fit bothe full chain kits was £550 which was about what i had been told to expect he then got a third party to drill out, re sleeve and then re thread to take original bolt, removed the sump to clean out all the bits that had been created due to the bolt snapping and also found the bolt, oil and filter change obviously which was pain as it had only had service month ago ( but necessary) for the extras it took total bill upto £715 which i felt was reasonable, the guy is based in essex and is worth considering if you need anything done , by the way he kept me informed at all stages took pictures of his findings to show me.
hope this info is of interest
