well yesterday was the day the beast finally started ,after taking it off the road in december as the balance chain was rattling ,the rings were knackered as it was using a litre of oil every 300 miles
so my mate had an engine in that the chain had snapped on it had only done 50k ,so ive had new rings in it ,big end bearings, main bearings ,i kept the head of mine as i know it was good ,relapped all the valves ,new valve stem seals .new water pump, cam chain and balance chain too
whilst i was at it ive done the balance shaft delete ,very easy to do as well
so yesterday i finally got everything back in place ,all fluids topped up i was actually shaking with nerves as i connected the battery back up .after reading several stories on here of people doing chains and engine rebuilds i was worried mine wouldnt start ,so i cranked it over a few times to get the oil pressure up ,only to see petrol spraying out from where it connects on the fuel rail ,so stuck a new o ring in ,and another couple of cranks then the big moment of starting it ,and i was absolutely chuffed to bits when it fired up straight away ,slight rattle to start with then all quiet ,no smoke 🙂
im quite proud of myself as ive done all the work myself ,roll on june when its finally back on the road ,still got the trailing arm bushes and arb to do ,going have all the brakes apart and clean then up and copper grease them all as its been stood 4 months
