Put my notice in today

Today I put my notice in at work. I have only been at the new place for about just over a 1 month. I am leaving this job as they expect you to lift heavy stuff that should be towed with a trailer (Temp Traffic Lights). This new place does not give you your wage slips unless you ask for it, then the guy prints them off the pc and he can see every thing on it. Then on Friday gone they made us stop back after work to do stuff we would do through the day. I did not get home on Friday till 8:30PM from starting at 05:30AM. The main reason I am leaving is so I don't end up getting hurt and going on the sick. The Temp Traffic Lights we have fold up, they also go onto a trailer to be towed. The depot they have up here is tiny. They can't fit extra trailers in the depot so that's why I do a lot of lifting. Three of the other lads have tail lift vans, so they don't lift stuff like I have to. The Temp traffic lights hold three Diesel size batteries in each traffic light head. Each battery is heavy. Then I have to lift the base of the traffic light onto the van (Heavy), then the head onto the van. Today I lifted 6 Traffic lights onto my van, putting them on my van and off. That's 18 batteries, signs, sand bags. My arms are sore, my shoulder has been sore for about 1 month. It's a hard life lol

not good mate
im in the same boat at the moment with lifting
i dress the aga tops at 37kg each and handle 45 twice in/out
i've just been off with a back injury and i've been back 4 days and im already muffed up
got a meeting with the works nurse next thru to decide my fate! 🙁

Well at my last job we used to used two men to lift the big stuff on the van. At this place it's get on with it yourself. So today I lifted..

60kg x 6 on and off my van
182kg x 18 on and off my van
And more but those are the main heavy things. I've not lifted so much in my life, my arms are sore as. I lift like this everyday in my job. People expect too much from us. I wish we had a Heath and safety guy at out place

Bear in mind my van is a Ford Transit drop side. So that's lifting stuff up to about the height of the drivers seat onto the back of the van

Not much help as we all get jobs in the morning and off we go. I might get help now and again but no at all if I have to pick jobs up away from the depot. I just hope my phone call to a person tomorrow secures me my next job 🙂

know how you feel, i've been in the traffic management game since 1989 and it never gets easier. i,m nearly 50 now and we have only just got tail lifts but i chose not to have one so the other lads get all the temp light jobs. just a foot note, under health & safety and the highways agency rules you are not supposed to work alone on the roads.
