Insulating A Loft??

Anyone had a go at doing one? I need to get my loft insulated before the winter, as there is no insulation there at the minute, other than a shit load of dust.

How easy/difficult/messy will it be doing it?

are you insulating the between the joists where your ceiling is? the dust is the cement off your roof its probably compressed your original insulation.

Have you tried to contact the council? you might be able to get a grant for it..... and your walls 🙂

if your laying the insulation in the loft make sure you wear a dust mask as that stuff aint nice to breathe in

There is nothing there originally, all there is a cardboard, and a load of dust. The dust is about 1" deep, and is between the joists. I've been and got some space blanket insulation stuff, so just doing the whole loft now

i'v got some loft boards to put down just can't get motavated to start it though 🙁 .

I've finished!! Got all the loft insulated. To be fare, most of it is just layed down, but the most of the loft is dead space, as it's too small to use. I've laid a couple of loft boards down as well near the loft hatch, so we can use that little space as extra sorage

i've taken a few pictures of the loft before and after, and i don't know if it's just me, but it seems a lot warmer in the house. i'll post some pictures up tomorrow, as i'm on my mobile at the minute.

As you can see in the before pictures, there was no insulation there, only the 1" layer of dust.

We had the cavity walls filled back in February, and when asked about the loft insulation from the same company, they wanted £150, but I've done it on my own for £45 😃
