Corsa D brake light switch

My mate has a 2008 Corsa D, both left and right brake lights dont work but the centre does, swapped bulbs nothing, then the fuse nothing.

Only other thing i can think of is the brake switch, but if it was a faulty brake switch would the centre brake light not work as well?

Dont want to go out and get a brake switch if it can not be this. Also anyone know how tricky it is to swap a brake switch on this car?

if its any thing like the astra then its just twist and pull
but like you said the center lights working indicating there is another problem
do you have a multimeter you can test the output with ?

After fitting the bulbs did you turn ignition off and back on?
As that resets the can.

Thanks Carl, yes have a multimeter, where would i test and how? Are you thinking it may have a earth issue maybe?

Did indeed Daz a few times.

well if the other lights are working then there won't be an earth fault as they with be shared for each light cluster
you can get someone to press the brake pedal then put the meter to earth then the + to the brake feed wire in the plug on the light if it shows +12v then the bulbs are duff
or a problem with the bulb holder if theres no feed then fuse or wiring issue

The other lights are working even on the same bulb but its dual filament will give this ago as it is the free option for him.

You may not be able to test with a meter. As being can when the bulb isn't in the holder or you unplug the loom it won't send the signal down to switch the lights on

Thanks for all your responses (y) sounds like the multimeter may or may not work.

Could the centre / 3rd brake light get a reading else where or does this working totally rule out the brake switch?

That would tell me the switch is fine. Unless the switch has 2 outputs and the one side has gone down.

Well sorted it today.

What a mission, we swapped the bulbs as said tested the lights with meter and all looked ok from what we could tell, ordered a switch and then as the switch turned up we saw another

Corsa same model / Year brake lights not as in the manual and online.

So popped them back out went and bought some "fog light bulbs" bingo worked a treat.

So Halfords / local motor factors / online and a corsa forum all say we need 382 bulbs which are for lights and braking, yet my mates are the fog lights :confused:.

You got it, the manual/ Halfords / Internet all said the same bulb yet when we swap the fog light bulb it turns out to be the brake light.
