thinking of buying an lpg kit or my vectra 2.2.

Anyone got one fitted on there's?

I`ve got one, think real hard before getting one fitted.

Mines an old sytem that was fitted two owners prior to me, had many problems with with it and being old-ish no one will touch it.

When it was running fine the performance wasn`t too bad at all, probably loosing between 5-15 bhp.

On petrol the computer gives me around 35 mpg (92p/litre)
the gas gave me approx 26-28 mpg, but at 42p/litre for the same costs I was getting over 50 mpg.

Wish I had researched it more as its cost me £ hundreds in problems, which are still on going. Get a good one and I would recommend it, all depends on how much the system will cost against how many miles you do and how long youll keep the car.

the 2.2 looks a tricky diy job.

I would be fitting a direct injection lpg kit, not any of the old type (mixer ring etc,etc)

I was looking at the inlet manifold, not much space to get 4 holes drilled ( 1 on each inlet port )for each lpg injector.

I have a Romano kit here, with software and tuning lead. Dont know whether to try and do it myself again, or get one supplied and fitted.

I have a Pharos/I-com system in my Vectra, it`s an early model with the disadvantage of being the primary fuel system in my car.
Most modern set ups, start in petrol and the driver decides when to select LPG. Mine starts in petrol but instantly via ignition electronics, starts warming the LPG system which kicks in around 20-30 secs later. This has to be de-selected by myself to continue running in petrol, which I have to do as the systems buggered!!!

Looked at getting it removed as the re-sell value of the car will be affected, but one garage (probably the only one to touch my system with a barge pole) wanted around £400-500, as its proper hard wired into the ignition system.

So - stuck with an non-useable LPG kit which is playing havock with my engine management system and earths.

God I`ve waffled....... LPG rocks (when it works), just get a good-un :oops:

they have always been helpful when i needed help regarding LPg.

I think theres a chap called steve or bob, who seem to know there stuff very well.

what problem are you having with the lpg? I've tinkered with a few in the past, so might be able to help.

they say he knows his stuff as well on vauxhall factory fitted conversions.

Thanks for the info, I think I`m beyond help really.

As the old system I have is hard wired into my existing electrics I`m having problems with my earthing. The car plays up with the fan, rear window demister etc turned on. Engine management light comes on and the fault only clears with the battery disconnected for a while.

The filler connector needs replacing as the last time I tried to fill it vented £3.30 worth of LPG into the atmosphere, before that didn`t work I think I had a bad leak which really stunk the car out when left over night. (closed my eyes and held my breath every morning when starting her for work).

She`s past it. Should have researhed more prior to buying the car, another learing curve though.

what makes you think the lpg is causing the problems with the electrics?
Alot of mechanics blame the lpg for everything that goes wrong under the hood,

As for the gas leak, the connector only sounds as if it needs a quick turn to re-tighten the connection, if not, a replacement lpg connector is only £29 + VAT.

It sounds as if you've gave up on it ! Which i dont blame you, but if you get these items fixed, you will love the lpg costs.

Does the car still run on lpg ? or is it not switching over to lpg

Does the electric problems only happen when running on lpg? or do they happen on petrol as well?

Have you had the ecu checked? I have a brand spanking new one here you can borrow to check if needed.

checking back your posts, ( hope you dont mind ),

You have changed the alternator to a new one, no difference.
You have changed the battery to a new one , did it make a difference? if so, how long did it last until the problems started to re appear again?

It sounds like a alter or battery problem, have you tried changing the coil pack ? maybe its taking to much power consumption and when you go to use these items, its lacking power at the coil pack.

Once again, i have a brand new coil pack here, if you would like to check it.
