Astra 2.2 SRi Clutch Change

Hi all,

I know this has been covered before and I've read the threads thrown up by searching.

I am looking to change the clutch on my 2001 2.2 Astra and having been quoted £736.20 from Vauxhall I have decided to wield the spanners myself.

I'm a decent DIY'er and have all the gear (with some idea) but will be doing this on the drive with axle stands and trolley jacks.

Do I really need to drop the entire subframe to do this or can you simply pull the gearbox after dropping that side? Are there any decent how-to's out there? I've seen various threads with photo's but no one definitive collection.

I really don't want to drop the engine out as I would need to have the AC etc recharged and I don't have a hoist so that's out of the question.

Anyone in the Wells / Glastonbury area want to pop over and do the job for me? 😉

i did a vectra v6 some years ago
had it up on axle stands on the front and a 4x4" wooden fence post across the shocker struts then roped the engine to the post and used a jack under the sump
that way i was able to lower the entire sub frame to get the gear box out theres not enuff room to change the clutch with the sub frame in
took me 2 evenings to get it all out a 6 hours to get it back on the road but that was a gear box out job
the clutch change would take less time 🙂

Its a struggle to do the clutch just by dropping the subframe on the one side with the f23 box. The subframe is a piece of cake to drop out complete on an astra.

Was done on a ramp but you can use planks as Carl said and jack car off it

Hmm, cheers guys. Have to say I'm not looking forward to it but needs must. I'm not paying nearly as much as I paid for the car to have the clutch done 🙁
