Linzi Hi all, New to this site and need some help please. I have a Astra Bertone 2.2 16v automatic. The problem i need help with is somedays i can go out and the car will start straight away and other days it could take hours to start. It hasnt done it for months until yesterday when the problem got worse. Its hunting and it sounds like its running on 3 sylinders. If im at traffic lights or slowing down the revs will drop and either cut out or just stay on low revs hunting up and down. The car is juddering when i drive it now constantly and struggles to start when turning it back on. Ive changed the spark plug and crank sensor. We have been told it could be ECU or coil pack?? Any advice would be very helpful
evocarlos hello and welcome has the fuel filter been changed recently ? also maybe the throttle body wants a clean out
Linzi Thank you, Done the fuel filter it ran for about 3 days no problem then started again not starting. When turning car on it turns over around 8 times sometimes more before it will start then it will only start with foot on accelorator
IDI_AMIN Maybe the timing has gone a symptom of timing out is a hard to start. What year and mileage is your car

vocky Hello and welcome to the site (y) as for the tickover and starting problem it's also worth checking the EGR valve is not stuck open and the throttle body is clean.
Linzi Its a 2001 reg and done 112,000 miles. Yes it dows sound like those problems but no engine management light. Just read it could be the chain but again havent got a clue about cars?

A good chance the chain is worn its round about the time to do the chains especially if there is no history of a recent change. The chains stretch with age and the chain tensioners dont function the same over time this is a major possibility in my opinion
Linzi Think I might have to get someone to look at the chain dreading the price spent a fortune already trying to find the problem 🙁

IDI_AMIN Unfortunate but thats how it goes sometimes. you should talk to a mechanic for a definite cause it might not be the chain
Linzi Oh thank you i will have a look and thank you everyone for your replies im more confident now that i will evenyually find the problem gutted cant drive it tho while its mended if it is the chain
Linzi Sheffield. Ive spoke to a few mechanics and one says ECU one said EGR valves another saif fuel filter 2 have been wrong im hoping the 3rd ones wrong to dont fancy paying for ECU been quoted £1,000
pottsey Was gonna say if you were local to me my mate could have had a look at it as he's vauxhall guru
