I've installed and started to use a new Notification system on the site tonight.
Rather than the large, intrusive default notices, there are jquery based, and load in the bottom right hand corner of the screen.
I've set some up in specific sections of the site so far. They will automatically vanish after 12 seconds while on your current page, or you can close them down once read (will not re-appear for your current logged in session), using the little cross in the top corner, or totally dismiss them by choosing to do so from the link in the bottom of the notification.
Example below for the Garage section.
