New Work Laptop

Got a new laptop for work earlier this week. Lenovo T430 i7 vPro

Got it running 3 displays

Middle is the laptop on a docking station, and the screens to either side are Samsung SMS22A450 monitors

They are using DVI connections. The connections are provided from the docking station, and not the laptop itself. The dock also has 2 X HDMI ports on it, along with a single VGA.

Nice, I have a few monitors at work running through separate Gcards, it's something I fancy having at home as I find dual displays much easier to use.

I've got 4 monitors at home but mainly just run 3. 3 is the ideal number I think, don't think I could ever run less again.

I'm used to running two at work, as the old laptop could only handle two via the dock, or laptop and single monitor.

Really liking the 3 though. I'm using the laptop monitor for e-mail, and the other two for browser and server monitoring.

Have found an issue with the laptop though, and the SAS guys at work say it shouldn't make any difference.

If I plug the laptop into my network at home, any internet activity via IE/Chrome takes around 8 seconds to load EACH page. No matter what site I use. However, if I fire up the VPN software, and connect to work, it's super fast again.

Possible DNS setting? Have you checked all the NIC settings?

That is what I thought. I checked a few, and it was showing the DNS settings that were pushed out from my router (Open DNS primary / secondary, and google 8.8.8.8 tertiary). I'll check again tonight, and see if I can see anything else with it (with the limited access rights I have on it)

I can't see it being the open dns servers being an issue, as I can have my own laptop connected at the same time, and there is no issue at all. It's just this work one. Didn't do it on my old one either.

I was thinking it may be locking in on something on the win2k domain, and trying the office DNS first, before trying my own.

Actually, I have google set first/second, with open DNS 3rd already

Very odd, have you flushed the DNS? Only other thing may be a large hostsfile but I would say that would cause a problem all the time.

No, I didn't try flushing the DNS. Will give that a try as well when I get home tonight.
