Mark_Dj How do I know if I have Fibre Optic Broadband fitted? Will I just have a normal line or fibre optic. I am with Virgin Media and I have 30mbs of broadband, I just upgraded it to 60mbs tonight.
Mark_Dj Cool, all I know is my house had cable installed before I moved in. I thought for fibre optic you might need a new line in all together
Matt As above, all Virgin if fibre. It's BT and the other LLUs that are rolling it out, and eve then, it's only fibre to the cabinet, it's still the old copper to your house. That is why Virgin can offer 100mb plus for their packages
MikeS well virgin is technically fibre to the cabinet from the cab to your DTE inside the premises it is it coax cable, similar to your aerial cable
astra22bertoneauto As Mike said - fibre to the street cabinet and coax to the house. For a short run of coax i doubt theres any loss of speed neither. Ive just had mine upgraded to 120Mb by Virgin so its good for on demand videos etc. Realistic speedtest results are less but im not complaining.
Mark_Dj Nice upload speed, 10.555 🙂. I wanted a bit faster internet as I am uploading a few videos to Youtube these days. Mine is still on 30mbs, it should go up to 60mbs some time today. Cheers for the info guys 🙂
Matt Mark Dj said: Is this speed any good, should my upload be a little more? I'd expect that to be quite a bit more. Have you tried any of the other server locations on the speed test?
Matt Speak to VM and see what they have to say. What does their website say about upload speed vs download speed for the package you are on? I'm getting 68mb download, and I get 14.5mb upload with my ISP
MikeS 2.90 is poor they usually throttle back on upstream as a result of congestion as when people download they use a big portion of their upstream bandwidth as well
MikeS here you go mark http://community.virginmedia.com/t5/Up-to-120Mb-Speed/Upload-bandiwdth-1-3m-s/m-p/1684128
Mark_Dj Cheers Mike, had a little read on that post. So it could be a few things or even right for me. I seen a part saying it could be the router as well.
