Hi,

I may be swapping for a Vauxhall Astra 2.2 SRI it's on a 2002, I have heard all sorts RE the chain issues and am looking for some advice, as far as I'm aware there isn't history with the car for regular oil changes or the chain being replaced, what would you advise me doing? Last thing I want is the chain snapping, the owner has told me he's had no issues with the car and there is no rattling or odd noises from engine, thanks in advance.

96k but it's been used daily by the seller

Cheers mate, is there anything else i should replace or is it just the cam chain with an oil change worthwhile?

like any other car you buy you should look at cam belt change and major service as your priority

on astra g2.2 look for

knocking going over bumps or sharp acceleration / braking is usually anti roll bar links
clunky gear change is usually the front engine mount
dodgy rear handbrake - caliper seize
cracked head - you need to take off coil pack and look for water in recesses, misfire under load, poor idle
lumpy idle and/ or rattle is usually chain and tensioner

Cheers mate any info you can give me is much appreciated. I did have an Astra 1.6 sxi a few years ago but had to let it off when i discovered the tappets had gone and the oil steam seals.
