hi guys,is it possible to take of head without messing with chain,ie undo sprockets and bungy cord chain to the bonnet?? cheers for any help

You would need to set timing again.To take off head the chain will be disturbed as it goes round camshaft sprockets that are attached to the head

its just i seen a vid where he zipped tied the chain to the cam shaft sprockets,undone them,then bungyed it to the bonnet.

That was maybe just to stop it falling down to bottom half of engine if you take the head off you will need to set timing again as the chain will be loose and move out of position there is plenty of info here to help with timing so i would not worry about it

You should give more info about your car engine year etc when was chain replaced you will get plenty feedback tips and info from regular users who can guide you on best way to go about your work

thanks,it a 52 plate 2.2,dont know if or when the chain was replaced,if anyones changed a hg,any tips would be brilliant.

If its a 52 plate i would say it is round about time for a new chain assuming it has not been replaced recently the chances are it will be worn and stretched at this age i done mine at end of last year it started off just a new head gasket and clean up the valves etc i was not planning a new chain but it was stretched with time and age so i replaced it plus the old chain tensioners are prone to failure causing bigger damage long term and more costs to rectify like chain snapping causing valves to bend anyone else on this forum would tell you the same thing and recommend a new timing chain kit

This is a thread i started as i knew the chain was not right it was dipping between the cam sprockets and i could sense this was not right so went looking for feedback before i put the covers back on
