Checking EGR valve

I want to check my EGR to make sure it is not causing my EML fault.
It's a Z22YH.
How do I check to make sure the EGR valve is working correct??
Can I just disconnect it and drive to see what fault occurs or does not clear or would this be a big no no?

does the z22yh have an EGR ?

Yes, i replaced my faulty one last year with second hand as they are no longer produced.

I think tech2 has a series of checks it can perform on the valve to make sure it's working. I know they do on the Z19DTH

Have you had the EML codes read to see what is bringing the EML on?

I have a code reader coming but it may not be that detailed. It does have live data but just cheap.
EML codes read before and description given was misfire in 1 and 4 but just wanting to make sure it has nothing to do with EGR, also want to check how well a second hand unreliable part has done me.
Code reader coming to give specific code to make sure the is not more detail in the code.
How can I check my ignition wiring loom with a voltmeter?

The code reader I have from eBay is able to read EGR faults (it read it on my Vectra C when I had it)

I know what happens when I buy something cheap, it goes wrong, I do something wrong or it was a pointless buy.
Not trying to say anything about it mind. I bought that because of others comments.
Well I will leave the EGR alone for now then and see what I get.
How do I know what pressures and things like that it should be running at to compare, or do I just post results?
