froggy Hi after changing valves, engine gaskets and cam/balance chains I started the car and tappets seemed noisier than before. When the engine warms up there was also a squeak. I took the cam cover off and it seems there is no oil feeding the cams. Could there be a blockage and where is best to start looking?
IDI_AMIN Try here first this could be blocked especially if you never changed it the old style has a small hole prone to blocking my old one had red coloured instant gasket in there so i could see it clearly the new oil jets have a bigger hole which is harder to get blocked up
froggy Thinking about it though there was a black grommet with a pin hole in the centre that came off my head when I took it off but there wasn't a new 1 in the gasket kit so fitted it back (which was a pain). Maybe that is blocked...
astra22bertoneauto The oil pressure valve in the head is probably blocked. This supplies oil to the cams & hydraulic tappets etc. Circled in red below. You could try removing the plug to the right of the circle and jet some air that way but tbh its probably best to remove the head and valve & give it a good clean.
astra22bertoneauto froggy said: Yes the bit circled is where the grommet is. Should it be there? Yes but ive not seen new 1's supplied with head kits before. Most likely a seperate item you have to buy.
vocky there should not be a separate seal for the oil way, the oil restrictor is part of the head from your picture there is no oil getting to the head, so you need to check the oil restrictor and remove the extra seal
froggy This is the grommet I was talking about Can you buy a new 1 or shall I remove it and push a pin through the hole?
vocky thats a hydraulic seal for brakes or something, certainly not for a z22se engine  do not fit that, it will block the oil way

astra22bertoneauto froggy said: its a perfect fit into the head I would look up the head / part on autodata/epc/tis and find out if it is meant to be there. But by looking at your pics and as Vocky said it dont belong there.
