Checking chains still marked

As title, if I wanted to check the chains to make sure they are still timed up correctly how can I do this on timing and balance?
Is it just remove rocker to check or do I need to go further down for balance?

If the engines been turned over then the marks on the chains wont line up again .

As above the chain marks wont line up but you can check to see if the chain has slipped a tooth or 2.

You would have to take off oil pump and cam cover. With piston 1 at TDC the cam lobes at piston 4 (gearbox end) should be pointing diagonally at each other (10 and 2 o clock position roughly).

Also the balance chain runs behind the cam chain.
