CAN I CLEAN 2.2 DIRECT Z22YH EGR VALVE.

Hi.Hope you don't mind me asking a question reguarding a possible EGR Valve problem.Got car/spanner light on plus engine amber emissions light.Used Snap On diagnostic and indicated EGR Valve .Also went to VX to Tech 2 but they could not be sure what the problem was.
I have just joined so this is my first posting. Just wondered if i can take it off and clean it. I know my engine is a Z22YH in my 2.2. Direct but can anyone help?

You can remove it altogether and purchase the blanking kit from VX. However, it would need removing digitally as well from the ecu using tech2.

If you want to try blocking it out as above without buying parts undo the two bolts on the egr and spin it round on one bolt so its still attached to the engine by a bolt but the egr is off the engine. cut a piece of tin out the same shape as the bottom of the egr and cut a couple of holes in to make a blanking plate. Bolt the blank plate on and leave the egr valve plugged in. obviously it is now blanked off with the ecu still thinking its there. see how that goes. if it works you can either buy the proper blank and box of tricks for the ecu plug or leave it as above.

In relation to above you will need to check its the same as the Z22SE i posted then realised yours is the YH

Thanks for the posting anyway.I don't know to much about the Vectra but need to learn as i really can't afford to be putting the car into Vauxhall.What is the main difference between my 2.2. Direct (04 Reg) with the Z22YH & the Z22SE.

Direct fuel injection on the z22yh. Some say its more reliable and fuel efficient than the z22se.

O.K .So am i right in saying the difference is the type of fuel injection.What do they call the injection system on the Z22SE .I have got to say my fuel efficiency is pants at the moment with this EGR problem.

Couldn't tell you. Just regular injection as opposed to direct? Mine averages 36mpg. Up to 40 on long runs but I probably only do 50 miles a week.

The valve on the yh is no longer available to buy new so you only have 2 options if ures is faulty.
1 . Get a good second hand one
2 . Get it turned off with tech 2

Thanks for the info,really good.I to have been told by Vauxhall that the EGR Valves for the YH are no longer available.They say you now fit a blanking plate and then have to remap the ECU to remove the amber engine (emissions) light.Has anyone, or does anyone know of anyone who has done this job on the Z22YH ?

You can't remap the z22yh. Your best off buying the blanking plate from vauxhall fitting it yourself then look on eBay for someone who has tech2. This is the software that is required to essentially turn off the egr valve. Most charge around 50 notes, worth searching by postcode.

I bought the box of tricks off here for about 10 quid and blanked mine. won't the box of tricks do the same on the yh

I need to get this done soon as the car seems to be drinking fuel. I'm going to buy the blanking plate from VX and then try to work out where it goes.Anyone give me a clue where abouts it goes as the Z22YH also uses water coolant.

Make sure the engine is cold. EGR is quite large on the back passenger side, next to the coolant sensor if you have ever changed that. Search eBay for the egr valve. Will give you idea of what the actual device looks like.

Found the EGR Valve .Any idea where the blanking plate would be fitted relative to the valve. Can't really see the point of getting a secondhand valve only for that to fail also.

unbolt the egr and the blank will go where the egr valve was. it just bolts into the same place.

One point to make is that the egr on the yh has coolant passing thru it so you will lose some from the head when u remove it
